Beautiful Clearwater Lake, located just 12 miles southwest of Ellington on Hwy H, is a great place to explore. Popular lake activities include swimming, camping, boating, picnics, sightseeing, hunting and fishing. Clearwater Lake area is known for the grandeur of its hills and general outdoor beauty. The shoreline is studded with beautiful bluffs and private indented bays and coves. Crystal Clear Black River, the creator of Clearwater Lake, flows tranquilly through miles of beautiful country scenery ( Highway K Recreation Park)

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Camping Area’s

Piedmont Park Recreation Area (take Route HH from Piedmont to the dam, Lake Road 3).

Bluff View Recreation Area (north on Hwy 49 to Route AA which ends at the lake)

River Roads Recreation Area (from Piedmont take Route HH and turn off just before the dam- or across the dam and turn left. River Roads is on both sides of Black River below the dam.

Route K Recreation Area (on Route K, about midway between Ellington and Annapolis (15 miles East of Ellington)

Webb Creek Recreation Area, the nearest town from Ellington, go south on Hwy 21 to Route H

Corps Camping Fee:

The addition of 50 amp electrical service at some campsites has put a new amount in the fee schedule for camping at Clearwater Lake. These sites the corps call the “prime” - are $18 a night. They are available only at Bluff View and at a new camp area at Route K Recreation Area. Other Corps sites with electric hook-ups are $15 a night. They’re available at Piedmont Park, Webb Creek, River Roads, as well as Bluff View and Route K.

Other Area Attractions

Current River: Located 13 miles west off Hwy 106

Black River: Located 15 miles east of Ellington on Hwy K

Blue Springs: A local favorite, located 13 miles west on Hwy 106 near Owls Bend on Current River.

Two Rivers (located 20 miles east of Ellington, just off Hwy 106, watch for their signs). This is where the Jack’s Fork and the Current River meet is the perfect starting point . It’s a 3 hour float to Powder Mill/Owls Bend and a 6 hour float to Logyard Landing.

Clearwater Lake is located not far from the highest point in Missouri, Taum Sauk Mountain: the biggest spring in the world: and the beginning of the old South with its rich swamps. When you visit Taum Sauk, you can also take in Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, Elephant Rocks State Park, take a float on the upper Black River, tour the historic Civil War remnant, Fort Davidson. Or you can venture into the big springs country and see the biggest of all, Big Spring at Van Buren. Also world class are Round Spring, Geer Spring. Blue Spring. Alley Spring and more. Clearwater Lake makes a terrific base area for exploring the region.
